The San Antonio Rampage raised a franchise-high $48,000 from a postgame jersey auction on Friday, February 3rd during their second annual Pink in the Rink Night to benefit the San Antonio Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The team also set a franchise attendance record as 16,151 fans watched the Rampage skate on pink ice.
The Rampage wore pink-themed jerseys that were auctioned off to raise money for Komen San Antonio. Rampage team captain Nolan Yonkman’s jersey raised a record $6,000. Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich’s game-worn tie raised $2,600 and included signatures from Spurs players Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker and Tim Duncan. In addition, the Rampage auctioned off several pink hockey-themed ties that were worn by San Antonio celebrities, including: Spurs television hosts Bill Land and Sean Elliott, WOAI weatherman John Gerard and local sports anchors such as Joe Reinagel (KENS), Greg Simmons (KSAT) and Chuck Miketinac (KABB). Other top bids included a game-worn jersey by Rampage forwards Wacey Rabbit ($3,000), Eric Selleck ($2,100), and Jon Matsumoto ($2,000) as well as the Spurs Coyote ($2,600).
The Rampage sold out the AT&T Center for the first time in franchise history and welcomed 16,151 fans that eclipsed the team’s previous record from last season (14,339) in their first-ever Pink in the Rink Night on Jan. 28, 2011. Last year, the Rampage raised $35,000 in a post-game jersey auction to benefit the San Antonio Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
